nick gentry's floppy art

In this world of USBs, iphones and flashy external hard drives, the humble floppy disk has been shelfed for quite a while. Rather than let the abandoned floppys sit on the shelf gathering dust, London artist Nick Gentry is bringing them back, one by one, as canvas for his innovative portraits.

Evoking the figurative history of each disk, Nick’s paintings comment on the fast pace of the modern life cycle. “To challenge this notion, as these personal artefacts of life are cast aside, the obsolete are now given new life and a renewed purpose by using them as a medium for art.” Some of the portraits have metallic circles as eyes which creates another perspective to the work.

Heads up to readers in London, Nick will be part of the Dreweatts Urban Contemporary Art Auction on the 21st April. So, if you want to snap up a piece for your private collection, here's your chance.
