new york fashion week according to kluster

We've been pondering our thoughts on some of the collections for almost a week now...

At the Hervé Léger by Max Azria show, the renowned bandage dress was reworked with subtle boudoir touches of corsetry and ruffles. Apart from three pairs of laced bandage pants, the intricate, geometrical dresses made up the majority of the collection.

Alexander Wang brought us an innovative take on the suit, which he described as “Berlin schoolboy meets velvet du jour.”  Picture lots of chenille, crop tops, velvet, wraps and exposed skin.

Zac Posen’s collection worked well individually, but as a collection was not as unified as it has been in the past. There were khaki looks that were almost tribal, a fur coat and flawless beige and black party dresses. Then there were a few reddish-peach pieces.

More than 140 designers donated clothes for Naomi Campbell’s charity fashion show and auction, including Versace, Gucci, Christian Dior, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karen, Dolce and Gabbana and many more high-profile fashion houses. The show took place on February 12th in memory of the late Alexander McQueen, one of the legendary designers of our time. Raising much needed funds for Haiti, McQueen's final collection “Plato’s Atlantis” was shown (it debuted in Paris last October).

Peter Jensen’s collection was soft and feminine with kilt mini skirts, and velvet jackets. Very Lolita meets preppy school girl. Over at the Y-3 show, Yohji Yamamoto sent models sprinting down the runway wearing outfits inspired by superheroes such as Zorro; as evidenced by the long black cloaks, which were teamed with colourful touches and sporty leg warmers.
