man booker shortlist announced

The Man Booker prize for Fiction 2009 shortlist has been announced. First awarded in 1969 this prize rewards the very best fiction book of the year. Having the power to transform the lives of it's winners, it is considered the world's most important literary award.

Enough background, down to the important stuff. The six books shortlisted from the longlist of 13 are:

    •    A S Byatt The Children's Book
    •    J M Coetzee Summertime
    •    Adam Foulds The Quickening Maze
    •    Hilary Mantel Wolf Hall
    •    Simon Mawer The Glass Room
    •    Sarah Waters The Little Stranger

The winner will be revealed on Tuesday 6 October at a dinner at London's Guildhall as well as being broadcast across TV, radio and online. Until then these six authors will be eating their nails or, if feeling cocky, planning how to spend their £50,000 in winnings, not to mention the extra sales and notoriety that will be received worldwide. No shortlisted author is forgotten, all six receive £2,500 and a designer bound edition of their own book.
