No, it’s not our birthday (and that’s not an errant comma you spy). We’re saying a big happy birthday to that wonderful thing we know as the cocktail. May 6 marks the anniversary of the day the word “cocktail” first appeared in print back in 1806. Since 2006 (the cocktail’s 200th birthday), bartenders and barflies around the world have celebrated the day in style with drinks, mixology demonstrations and more drinks.
This year’s event, which was the start of an entire World Cocktail Week, was held at Hugo’s Kings Cross, and featured cocktails mixed by Signe specialist Ben Davidson, Phil Bayly of Cafe Pacifico and Pierre Faljourn of the Ivy. We loved the 18-year-old Chivas Regal.
All proceeds from the night went to the Museum of the American Cocktail. Yes, it’s a real thing – check it out here.
