ambit's got it covered

They may say “never judge a book by it’s cover” but that rule doesn't apply to Ambit magazine, purvayors of poetry, fiction and art since '59 - or so they tell us. Heck, their covers are just as important as the content.

On 17th November, London’s The Original Gallery held the opening of the Ambit Covers Exhibition. Featuring 50 front covers since Ambit Magazine’s birth, the walls of the gallery framed works by names like David Hockney and Francis Bacon, giving viewers an insight into the inspiration, controversy and innovation that Ambit is famous for. Those in attendance were further honored to hear readings by Liz Berry, Nick Sweeney, Abigail Parry and Sam Riviere, each inspired by a cover of choice.

The exhibition will remain on display until 15th January 2011 at The Original Gallery, London N8.

evil never looked this good

East London’s Pure Evil Gallery exemplifies contemporary art’s evolution from the revolution of 60s Pop Art. Against one of the city’s edgiest and most fashionable backdrops the space houses the bold statements of street artists from all over the world, bringing together the political, controversial and romantic.

The work of Austrian street artist, Nychos will grace the walls this September. Pen this date in your diary to avoid regrets: Thursday 16th September.

And don't forget to head down this Thursday for the First Thursdays private view.

Pure Evil Gallery is at 108 Leonard Street, East London EC2A 4XS Ph. 020 7729 2866.
