Models stomped out onto a smoke-filled runway. The metallic gold singlets, oversized billowing parkers and free-flowing maxis became lost in mist. Frustratingly so at first until the smoke cleared to reveal a collection subtly connected by gathering. intentional gathering of the fabric, that is. Our personal favourite item was the barely there white micro mini, featuring the aforementioned gathering. Subtle tribal undertones were accentuated by bonish necklaces and chunky bangles.
It seems like just yesterday we were watching Bec & Bridge parade their SS 0910 wares down and across the Cargo Theatre. Alas, time passes quickly. In reality, that was a year ago and a lot more than the chosen show formation has changed for the Sydney duo since then.
Including, we spied, a not-so-secret baby on the way.

Welcome to RAFW, 2009. Hot on the tails of RAFW openers, Camilla & Marc, was another dynamic Sydney duo, Bec & Bridge. This collection’s show was delivered with a sophistication that belies the designer’s fledgling status; this is only their second solo RAFW showing.
In Palimino Bride long, flowing hemlines are cinched in with oversized belts, still worn high on the waist. Metallics came in many forms, from the mosaic print on mini’s to gold, tasselled zips on black. The crocheted dresses, mini and maxi, deep charcoal metallic, black, white and blue, are worthy of mention, as are the blazers and bodysuits. Crop tops also featured in various forms, but always over tanks.

RAFW is well under way, power outages and all. We've been spending a bit of time down at the Overseas Passenger Terminal this week, eyeballing the new ranges and finding out what's in store for Australian fashion this Spring. Bring on the summer, we say. Of course, not before we are allowed ample time to hibernate, with a book, an open fire and a generous glass of Pinot.
We digress. Back to the fashion:
Highlights of the first three days include Bec & Bridge and Alpha 60. Details to follow.
